The Del Mar National Horse Show is a three week Horse show held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds every year. The show doesn't only include one discipline, the first week consists of Western events, dressage follows the next week and the show concludes with Hunter/jumper week. The show runs from Tuesday-Sunday for three weeks from April-May. All three weeks have a highlight of the show every Saturday. Western week has a "Wild West" show appropriately named Night of the Horse and showcases how diversely horses can be trained. The highlight of dressage week is freestyle dressage class where many of the sports greatest dressage riders showcase their skills. At the end of the third and final week, Hunter/jumper week, is a $100,000 Grand Prix. It starts with a Speed Derby where riders must complete a course both in and out of the arena. Once that has finished, the Grand Prix starts. Many Olympians, such as Rich Fellers and Will Simpson and other top riders, compete in this Grand Prix. Overall, the Del Mar National is one of my favorite shows to attend since you can watch everything from horses jumping over fire to jumping over 1.60m spreads and because of the great atmosphere put on by the show managers.
